Future
Programs for
Humane Society of Steuben County
V.I.P.
(Volunteer Incentive Program)
The pet owner comes in and
volunteers at the shelter for a
set amount of hours, i.e.; 8
hours for a large dog spay, 4
hours for a cat spay, and upon
completion are given a
certificate that verifies that
the Humane Society will pay for
a spay/neuter at one of our
participating Veterinarians
TNR (Trap,
neuter, Release) Anyone can
come into the shelter and leave
a $35.00 deposit and take home a
humane trap to catch "feral"
cats, and the shelter will pay
for the spay/neuter as long as
the person signs an agreement
they will continue to feed/care
for the cat. The deposit
is returned when they are done
with the trap.
K.I.N.D.
is an award winning classroom
newspaper for children grades 2
through 6 that has been
published by the Humane Society
of the United States since 1983.
It encourages good character in
children with emphasis on
kindness to animals, respect for
habitats, good citizenship and
peer conflict resolution.
A one year subscription costs
$30.00 which is delivered to the
classroom monthly (Sept.-May)
includes the teacher's guide,
worksheets, calendar of fun tips
on helping animals and 28 copies
of the newspaper.
Volunteer
Oppurtunities:
Cat
Cuddlers Club You can
volunteer to come in and sit
with the cats, brush them, clean
their ears and play with them.
Hours are from 10:00 am until
5:00 pm every day (except
Sunday). How long you want
to stay is up to you. This
is a great oppurtunity for
seniors and children above 14
year of age (with a parent).
Dog
Walkers Club Again, you can
come in any of the above hours
and walk the dogs, brush them,
play ball and have fun!!
Needless to say, this for the
fit and young at heart.
Volunteer
Kennel Staff Of course
we ALWAYS need help cleaning and
feeding in the mornings and
tidying up in the afternoon.
A
"Volunteer" Volunteer
Coordinator Someone to
organize and recruit volunteers
needed, especially for off-site
events.
Volunteers
for off-site events Such as
going into classrooms to
introduce the K.I.N.D.
newsletter, picking up
newspapers and donated food,
off-site adoptions and
information booths, etc.
Foster
Program We need people
willing to take animals into
their home on a temporary basis,
mostly for medical needs
(pregnant, mamas with newborns,
animals that are to young, etc.)
and Humane Society pays for
their food and treatment.
When the problem is resolved,
they are then returned to our
adoption program.
Call
us, email us or stop by.
You are always welcome.
Our next
project is to renovate our cat
rooms to be more user friendly.
Donate supplies or folding
"wingchairs" to make a lap for
our petters and furry friends!
